Abstract
The author carried out epidemiological and clinical studies towards 1, 155 CO patients from the clinical record kept in the hospital. All patients were treated by hyperbaric oxygenation at the hyperbaric chamber unit of National Medical Center during period from December, 1974 to May, 1979.
The results are as follows;
1. Sex incidence showed that female was predominated in a proportion of 1. 49:1 The highest incidence rate was observed in the age group of 15~29 years which constituted 53 per cent of the total cases.
2. The seasonal distribution was highest in winter month, and the peak incidence was in January and December.
3. The most important factor influencing the recovery of the patient was the starting time of. treatment. It was evident that earlier the starting time, shorter the recovery time.
4. Admission rate of male was 23.3%, and that of female was 15 3%. The highest admission was observed in the age group of 70~79 years, and the lowest in the age group of 0~9 years.
5. Duration of admission was 5 days in 47.2% of the admitted cases and 62.2% of them was discharged with in 8 days.
6. The main complications were pulmonary edema and aspiration pneumonia (30. 0%), trophic changes (12.1%) neurological disorders (13.1%), psychological disorders(7.9% )
7. Fatality rate after hyperbaric oxygen treatment was 5.4 per cent.
